Find Nearby EABS

Buffer Your Address

By buffering your address you can find all EAB Positives within a specified distance of your address or other area of interest.  A buffer is a GIS (Geographic Information Systems) term for a zone of a specified distance around a feature or a set of features.

In order to find nearby EAB Positive locations, first use the Find Your Address task or identify an area of interest on the map.

Next, click the "Find Nearby EABs" task in the Tasks Window

A dialog for the "Find Nearby EABs" task opens allowing you to specify the options for executing the task. Click to add a point to the map to serve as the center of the buffer. The button will look depressed when it is active. Once active, click on the map on the desired location to add the point. Next, specify the buffer distance in miles. Check (or leave checked) the Display Attributes of EAB Positives Within Search Distance:" checkbox if you would like to see the attributes (database information) of the selected EAB Positive locations within the buffer area

Click when you are satisfied with the task options.

When the task is complete the buffer area and the selected EAB Positives within the buffer area will be plotted on the map. Also, a floating panel containing the database attributes of selected EABs (if that option was checked) will be displayed.

Note:  EAB Positive locations should be viewed with caution.  Monitoring agencies often discontinue survelliance activities or reporting new locations when EAB is confirmed in a geographic area.  Also, EAB Positive locations are often obscured (by placing the location in the center of a township, for example) to protect land owners.
